The event has concluded, but you may still register online to be a donor! Click here to register!
Hallie is a 32-year-old Vietnamese American who has been diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL)—a blood cancer—and is in search of a stem cell match. Finding a match is difficult with only a 41% chance for Asian/Pacific Islanders and even less for Vietnamese patients. Please consider taking a non-invasive (mouth swab) test to see if you are a match. If you are a match, you can help to save Hallie’s life by donating your blood.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Who is eligible to get tested?
  • People who are between the ages of 18 and 60 and meet health guidelines are eligible. For more details, please visit BeTheMatch.org.

  • How much does the test cost?
  • FREE for those who are between the ages of 18 and 44. Otherwise, the test is a $100 charitable donation to the National Marrow Donor Program.

  • Do I have to be Asian to donate?
  • No you do not. According to Be The Match, the likelihood of finding a match by patient ethnicity is Asian/Pacific Islander (41%), Hispanic/Latino (46%) and African American/Black (23%). The odds are much lower for people of color compared to Caucasians (77%). Join the registry and spread the word about the need to increase the ethnic background of the donor registry.

  • How long does the process take?
  • Registration and swabbing takes about 10 minutes, though there may be a short wait while in queue. This is not a social event and people are encouraged to leave once their testing is complete.

  • Is there a benefit to attending the event?
  • Yes! Getting swabbed at the event will expedite the matching process to about 2 weeks (instead of 10 weeks via online).

  • I am already a registered donor. How can I help?
  • Thank you for being a part of the registry! Please continue to spread the word about joining Be The Match. The system refreshes daily so Hallie's doctor/Be The Match will reach out if you are a match.

  • What if I can’t attend this event but still want to help?
  • You can join the registry and request a test kit (cheek swab) be mailed to your home. Whether it's Hallie or someone else, you have the potential to save a life and help so many families in need of a donor match.
